DIY Headboard

Few things complement a good bed quite as well as a stunning headboard and some elegant linen. A beautiful headboard can make such a statement and can completely change a room.

These items of furniture are often extremely expensive and it is difficult to get the exact style you are looking for. Here we provide a solution to this problem: make you own! An upholstered headboard can add ambience and comfort to a bedroom, and the beauty of this project is that it can be finished off in one day.

Whatever strikes your fancy in terms of shape, design, colour and fabric can easily be created, and there is now no reason to have similar headboards in each bedroom – in fact, each room can have its very own, unique headboard that will complement the décor and ambience of that room. When choosing fabric for the covering, the sky’s the limit too. Choose from cotton, linen, velvet, silk or even leather or denim!

Mattress maintenance and care

Despite the fact that we may spend up to a third of our lives stretched out on one, the mattress is one of the most underrated pieces of furniture in the home.

It is, however, crucially important, and in particular to the health and wellbeing of not only yourself, but your guests as well. It makes sense then to ensure that the mattresses in your esta b lishment are
well looked after and cared for, and that they are always in tip-top shape. It is, after all, the first thing your guests encounter in the morning and the last thing they encounter before drifting off to sleep...

Stain removal tips courtesy of Glodina Marathon

Your guests may not take care of your towels as well as you would like them to.

The good news is that Glodina Marathon have taken heed of your plight and have supplied us with a list of stain removal tips for some of the more common guest “accidents”.
ALCOHOL – Treat as soon as possible. Alcohol stains, if left, will turn brown.
Remove fresh stains with plenty of warm water. If the stain persists, rub with glycerine, leave to stand for 30 minutes and rinse. Older stains may be removed by sponging on methylated spirits, surgical spirits or commercial pre-wash stain remover, followed by washing. Bleach should be a last option.

Volpes the preferred linen supplier to the industry

When Reuben Volpe founded Volpes in 1929, he decided he would supply his customers with more than just good quality linen at good prices. He envisaged a company that in addition would offer top quality service, backed by his own sincere guarantee, “I want to be able to look the customer in the eye afterwards”, he said. It is this motto upon which Volpes has built its proud name and reputation. This year Volpes is celebrating its 78th birthday. Today Chuck Volpe, son of its founder, runs the company, with the assistance of his wife Stephanie and a dedicated management team.

Wash-day yellows!

Judging by the frustrations of many accommodation
establishment owners and managers, yellow stains on white linen seem quite common (especially in the summer months) – and seem notoriously difficult to get rid of.

The first problem with the yellowing of white cotton is that it may be caused by a variety of factors. Some suggest that the yellow stains are the result of using either too much or too little detergent, that the linen is being washed in water with too low a temperature, or that it is not being rinsed properly.

A guest house owner writes...

My guest house was really a B&B with only 2 rooms that
commenced trading just on 8 years ago.

I remember we ordered beds from the contracts division of one of the big manufacturers. At that stage my aunt was living in the house and she was my manager. My aunt took ill and moved out a few years ago. For 10 months I had a disastrous manager and then I took over. Without a manager I now had 3 rooms to rent out.

Beds online – an overview

Beds online is the only e-commerce bedding retailer in
South Africa, who practices the “out of store” retail pproach by utilising the internet, contact centre and e-commerce buying website and has been in operation for 6 years.

This concept was initially based on an extremely successful company
in the USA, called Dial-a-Mattress, but customized for the South
African market. The idea was to reach a broader market by not
being limited to the location of retail outlets, and this has been
achieved with tremendous success.
